If you’re going to a FIFO camp, it’s important to bring everything you need to make your stay enjoyable. Even though you might be flying out regularly, there’s nothing worse than being stuck without things you need for any length of time.
Here’s a list of things you need to make sure you pack.
- Smart Phone
You can download the Glyde App to navigate you to your room and access your room without going to reception. - Credit or Debit card
To use at the Searipple Tavern or shop. - Drink bottle
It’s hot. - Hat and Sunscreen
It’s sunny. - Sports/gym clothes
Stay fit while you’re on swing. - Steel-capped boots
Ideally wear them in before you arrive, as it can be a very long day if they hurt your feet. - Comfortable and durable socks
These are almost as important as comfortable steel-capped boots. - Tinea cream
Unfortunately, you might develop this problem wearing your steel-capped boots. Your feet can get pretty sweaty. Tinea cream will help you to nip any problems in the bud. - Any medications you might need
This could include general medications like Panadol as well as any prescription medications you might be taking. - Toiletries
Shaving cream, soap, your razor, deodorant, aftershave lotion, face wash, moisturiser, toothbrush etc. - Comfortable after-work clothes
Make sure you take account of the likely weather conditions you’ll encounter. A few pairs of thongs are a must! - A laptop or tablet
Most FIFO sites have wireless internet access, so you can video chat with friends or family or stream a TV show or movie. - Important personal information
For example, emergency contacts, your tax file number, bank account details, super fund info, your licence, Medicare card, copies of certificates or qualifications you have, etc. - Prescription safety glasses (if you wear them).
Your employer will pay for these if you wear glasses, so organise this before you go and make sure you take them with you. - Sense of humour
It’s tough being away from family.
